A Mother Daughter Day In NYC

Today, I've turned into a travel blogger to give you a little synopsis of my mommy-daughter day in New York City! Honestly, I didn't realize how easy it was to get into the city. Hopping on the train was not a problem at all. We caught a taxi to Times Square and let me tell you how terrifying New York drivers are. I thought I might die in that taxi. It's crazy that there aren't more accidents in the city. Once safely in Times Square, we jumped into the line for our discount theater tickets. Times Square is such a strange place. People from all over the world come to see a collection of big ads. Capitalism is so weird. It would be cool to paint though. While waiting in line, my mom and I deliberated on which show to see. Our top two options were Moulin Rouge and Hell's Kitchen. In the end, my mom chose Hell's Kitchen and I didn't object. Secretly, I wanted to see it anyway. Right before we got to the ticket booth, I spotted a worker wearing a Chicago Sky baseball cap. For those of you who don't know me, I am a big women's basketball fan (March Madness bracket loading). We talked for a minute about the upcoming season. It's nice finding community out in the world.

After getting our tickets, we walked a short way to Barking Dog, a cute little brunch spot nestled in a small urban plaza. Bring your dog, and get a discount. We saw a husky and a golden doodle while we were eating. I ordered an iced latte and the loaded French toast. I'm not even ashamed to admit I cleaned the plate and even stole some of my mom's hashbrowns! The general manager was a small woman with boss bitch energy. She was flawlessly cool- the kind of woman you wished was your auntie. Anyway, before I go on a tangent, let me tell you about the rest of my day.

We walked around for a bit before making our way to the Shubert Theater. There is so much to look at in New York City-the shops, the cars, the people. It really is a concrete jungle. We got great seats. They were right in the center of the orchestra section in front of the stage. Unfortunately, my mom had to sit next to this big, grimy, old man. He was kind of weird so thank you to my mom for sitting there so I didn't have to! We couldn't tell if he was falling asleep during the show or really feeling the music. But who we did know was feeling the music was the woman sitting next to me. Every song her head was bobbing and she was mouthing the worlds. Shout out to that lady! Her vibes were impeccable. And Hell's Kitchen is an amazing show! I would highly recommend going to see it if you can. It is definitely a favorite of mine! And we only saw the matinee show with some of the key cast members missing. Stay tuned for my review of Hell's Kitchen!

When the show was over, we walked back to a bar we saw on our way to the theater, Playwright Celtic Pub. It had the cutest rooftop area overlooking the city. The stairs to get to the roof were insane. They were so steep that I'm surprised my mom and I both made it up and down with our knees. The food and drinks were great. My mom ordered a pineapple mojito and I had a hibiscus margarita. We split the nachos which we were pleasantly surprised by. Nachos are always a hit or miss. After we were finished, we walked around some more until we found our second rooftop bar, Beer Authority. Can you tell that we have a thing for rooftop bars? Unfortunately, the roof wasn't open, but we stayed for a beer or two. They know how to do a cold beer that's for sure!
We tried to locate a third rooftop bar to no avail so we decided to begin the journey home. It took my mom and me about 5 minutes of failing to use Apple Maps before realizing Penn Station was directly in front of us. Not our finest moment. After some waiting and a nap on the train, we returned to New Jersey. I'd say it was a mighty successful mother-daughter day! Thank you, Mommy!
